Australian Relief and Mercy Services (ARMS) - Practically helping people in need during difficult times
We were able to help a family for 4 weeks with her front and back yard, moving unwanted furniture, whipper-snippering the yard and pulling weeds. During our first visit, she was really upset and stressed about an active child protection case. The second time we were able to chat with her more and she really opened up about her hardships. She struggled a lot with her mental health and suicidal thoughts. Since then, we could pray for her and share the hope that we have in Jesus with her. By the last visit, she felt a lot more peace and was no longer stressed. We went to her house during school holidays, so her son was there to help as well. He was very curious and asked a lot of questions about our faith. We asked him if he knows why we celebrate Christmas - he didn’t, so we got to share the Gospel with him and he was really excited to hear about Jesus!
We visited a man who has been recovering from a heart attack. He hasn’t physically been able to do cleaning around his house so we were able to come in and help. We shared openly about God and also heard his views and opinions on who He is, as well as hearing his personal story and about his family. When we returned the 2nd week, he looked like a different person. He already looked so much healthier and cleaner. He told us that we were the only people who had contacted him since the last time we were there which made him sad but he felt motivated and had the strength to do things that he couldn’t before. This man was very kind, but so extremely lonely. We prayed with him and he also prayed a prayer to God himself
Year 12 Leavers Outreach
On the last night, a crowd of people were all gathered around our friend as he played guitar and sang and there was so much joy in the moment. A conversation on the side was happening with a guy who expressed his eagerness to get baptised and he had been going through the Catholic sacraments in order to do so. He mentioned that night that he didn't want to wait anymore - so he didn’t. Another friend got up in front of everyone and announced that we’d be going down to the beach to baptise him and he also got up and shared why and they all cheered and got excited for Him. We invited everyone to come, and EVERYONE CAME. It was some of the most calm water we have ever seen at a beach and the most beautiful quiet night. Our friend shared the Gospel with everyone and another 4 people responded to it. There were other whispers I heard like “this is actually so beautiful” and from another “I kinda wanna do it”. These were people who maybe had never heard the Gospel and maybe had never witnessed a baptism but that night their eyes were open and the Holy Spirit was present
There was a group of 5 guys that came to us one night for hot chocolates. They were a bit rowdy and messing around with each other and just there to have a good laugh until Nathan started sharing his testimony. There was a shift in their attention and they were so captivated so Nathan continued and shared the Gospel with them. He asked if they too would like to experience the Holy Spirit and if yes to step into the middle. One guy put up his hand first and we all got around and prayed for him. He felt “a warmth in his body” - then the other 4 boys wanted the same and so we prayed for them. By the end of the time with them, 4 had given their life to the Lord. Hallelujah!!
